Designing Women actress Dixie Carter died Saturday morning. she was 70.
The family would not disclose the cause of her death. Carter and husband Hal Holbrook live in Los Angeles area.
“This has been a terrible blow to our family,” Holbrook said in a written statement. “We would appreciate everyone understanding that this is a private family tragedy.”
Dixie Carter played Julia Sugarbaker on “Designing Women” from 1986 to 1993. She married Holbrook in 1984 and had two daughters, Mary Dixie and Ginna.
