Astronomers discovered an earth-like planet orbiting around the star COROT-7. The planet was named COROT-7b. The composition is somewhat similar to Earth’s, a rocky one, but with less iron and/or more water.
However, the planet orbits very close to its star, 23 times closer than Mercury is to the Sun. It is too hot to harbour extraterrestrial life.

Despite this, its discovery suggests that other similar planets could exist in an orbit that is cooler and less hostile.
The star, COROT-7, in the constellation Monoceros, is 500 light years away and is slightly smaller than the Sun.
