London’s Olympic Park is to get a mini-Eiffel on the order of the city’s mayor, Boris Johnson.
The Olympic Tower will resemble a giant ampersand of coiled metal and will stand some 400 feet high. The tower’s brainchild is artist Anish Kapoor.
“He has taken the idea of a tower, and transformed it into a piece of modern British art,” Johnson said of Kapoor’s design.
“I believe it will be worthy of London’s Olympic and Paralympic Games, and worthy of the greatest city on earth.”
He promised it would give those who climbed it “a truly spectacular view of London”.
