The new CD by the young German violinist Julia Fischer finds solutions to Paganini’s devilish violin caprices giving expression and character to music of hair-raising difficulty.
Paganini requires a performer who can perceive the creativity and sensibility behind the caprices and interpret them as Romantic musical compositions rather than mere feats of athletic prowess. Fischer is one such artist, appreciating as she does the diversity of mood that Paganini encapsulated in each of the caprices.
Julia Fischer is a classical violinist. She began her studies before her fourth birthday. By training she is also a pianist but rarely performs in public on that instrument.
