Researchers found women in long-term relationships to have healthier pregnancies and births. They were less likely to suffer high blood pressure during pregnancy and less likely to give birth to smaller babies.

According to scientists, women who had slept with a partner exclusively for at least six months has a lower rate of pre-eclampsia – abnormal state of pregnancy characterized by hypertension and fluid retention and albuminuria. They believe that the reason for the healthier birth is long-term exposure to the father’s sperm which boosts the immune system.
In a study conducted by Auckland University in New Zealand, researchers found that women who had undersized babies were more likely to have been in shorter relationships.
