Psychologists from the University of Vienna presented findings of their meta-analysis busting previous studies that links Mozart’s music to intelligence.
Over the years, it was thought that exposure to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s music enhanced student’s cognitive abilities through mere listening. However, the findings of Jakob Pietschnig, Martin Voracek and Anton K. Formann, suggest no support for gains in spatial ability specifically due to listening to Mozart’s music.
“I recommend listening to Mozart to everyone, but it will not meet expectations of boosting cognitive abilities,” says Jakob Pietschnig, lead author of the study.
The University of Vienna researchers’ study integrates the entirety 3000 scientific record both independent studies and unpublished academic theses on the topic.
A specific “Mozart effect,” could not be confirmed. The meta-analysis from the University of Vienna exposes the “Mozart effect” as a legend.
